Roadrunner Adds Canada-to-U.S. LTL: Check the Handoff

A new transportation option still needs lane confirmation, a receiving plan and a shipment-specific quote.

Canada-to-U.S. LTL shipping has a new carrier service announcement to evaluate. Roadrunner said on October 23 that it launched outbound service from Canada into its U.S. long-haul network. The company describes coverage across more than 40 U.S. metropolitan areas and says the service moves by truck rather than rail. FreightWaves reported the launch the same day.

That is a service announcement, not confirmation that a particular shipment is booked or that every destination has the same coverage. For U.S. receivers and distributors sourcing goods from Canada, the useful next step is to confirm the actual origin, destination and receiving requirements before changing a routing plan.

Check the lane, then the receiving window

Ask the provider to confirm service for the specific Canadian pickup location and U.S. delivery address. Match the proposed pickup date to the receiver's appointment process, dock hours and unloading requirements. A metro-area network description is not a shipment-specific delivery commitment.

If the freight will feed a warehouse, regional delivery route or another truckload move, identify who confirms its arrival before the next leg is dispatched. Keep the receiving contact and exception contact with the shipment instructions. These are planning questions, not evidence of a Roadrunner service problem.

Separate the announced rate action from your quote

Roadrunner also announced an overall 5.9% general rate increase effective November 2, 2026, applicable to its RDFS 501 and RDFS 1000 base rates. The company explicitly says that the overall figure is not a flat change on every shipment and that customer effects depend on lanes and freight characteristics.

A shipper should therefore ask which pricing basis applies to its own shipment and request a current quote for the intended shipping date. Do not simply add 5.9% to an old invoice or assume the announcement changes a negotiated agreement. Confirm the applicable base rate, fuel treatment and accessorial items with the quoting party. This is quote-comparison guidance, not an interpretation of a customer's contract.

Keep the handoffs visible

Before selecting a service, ask who owns pickup confirmation, shipment-status updates and delivery exceptions. Where a shipment requires border documentation, confirm the responsible parties and required information with the provider and the shipper's customs broker. This article does not provide customs or regulatory instructions.

For a receiving team, the broader lesson is the same as in our warehouse delivery preparation guide: a new transportation option still needs a clear receiving plan.

Roadrunner's announcement does not establish a Capernaum relationship, available capacity, shipment-specific transit time or customer savings. Evaluate the lane and the handoffs, then compare the actual offer.
