Scan Global Signs OIA Deal: What Shippers Should Check

The companies expect a 2027 closing and say they will operate independently until then. Keep each load tied to confirmed instructions.

Scan Global Logistics has signed an agreement to acquire OIA Global, the Portland, Oregon-based logistics provider. For U.S. importers and distributors, the important distinction is that an announced transaction is not a completed operational change.

In its October 28 announcement, Scan Global Logistics said the transaction remains subject to customary regulatory approvals, with closing expected in the first quarter of 2027. The companies will operate independently until closing. The Loadstar reported the agreement on October 29.

A proposed combination, not a new shipping instruction

The announcement describes OIA's activities across freight forwarding, customs brokerage, contract logistics, project logistics and other supply chain services. That makes the proposed combination relevant to businesses whose inbound freight moves through a forwarder before reaching a U.S. warehouse or domestic delivery network.

It does not, however, establish that a shipper's booking contact, pickup location, warehouse appointment or shipment reference has changed. The stated plan to operate independently until closing is the clearest near-term operating fact in the release. An expected closing quarter is not an integration schedule or a promised date for combining customer systems.

Keep current bookings separate from future plans

For freight already booked, continue to work from confirmed shipment instructions. If someone proposes a change, ask the established operating contact to identify precisely which load and which step it affects. This is a routine verification practice, not evidence of a problem at either company.

  • For a container pickup: match the container and booking references to the party confirming availability. A corporate announcement does not itself confirm cargo release or collection readiness.
  • For a warehouse or cross-dock move: retain the confirmed receiving address, appointment reference and unloading requirements. Do not redirect a truck based on an assumed future network arrangement.
  • For an onward FTL or LTL shipment: confirm the actual pickup party, destination and delivery window. Check that the domestic transportation instructions still match the warehouse's plan.

Our container delivery preparation guide provides related receiving-side questions. The aim is to keep the physical movement tied to shipment-level confirmations rather than the wording of a corporate headline.

Use the next planning cycle for specific questions

For bookings that extend into 2027, ask whether the provider has issued any customer-specific guidance on future contacts, references or service arrangements. If no guidance has been issued, record that as unknown rather than filling the gap with an assumed migration date.

Keep any confirmed change in a short written record: affected shipment, effective date, responsible contact and next action. Changes to a quote, handling scope or receiving arrangement should be checked on their own terms. The acquisition announcement alone does not establish a new rate, added trucking capacity or a change to an individual shipment agreement.

The practical takeaway is measured: watch for verified customer instructions, but do not treat a pending deal as a reason to reroute freight. For a U.S. inland move, contact Capernaum with the cargo details, origin, destination and receiving requirements. Coverage, timing and price require shipment-specific confirmation.
